How a 3D Foot Scan Starts a Custom Orthotic
A custom CNC-milled orthotic begins with a three-dimensional scan of the foot. The foot is positioned against the scanner while the device records its plantar shape rather than relying on a standard shoe size.
Capturing the Foot Shape
The scanner records the heel, arch, forefoot and toes as a digital surface. Keeping the foot steady allows these contours to be captured together as one model.
Building the Digital Model
The scan appears on the computer as a rotatable 3D foot model. This digital shape becomes the starting information used before the orthotic is designed and CNC milled.
