Anti-Static Work Boots: What They Are and Why They Matter
Anti-Static Work Boots: What They Are and Why They Matter
Static charge builds when materials rub and electrons move between surfaces.
In certain workplaces, footwear is designed to help dissipate that charge in a controlled way.

How static charge builds
Socks, clothing, flooring and footwear can create charge through friction. The familiar small shock after walking across a surface is one example.
In sensitive environments, uncontrolled discharge can affect equipment or contribute to ignition risk.
What anti-static footwear does
Anti-static boots provide a controlled path that reduces charge accumulation while retaining some resistance between the wearer and the ground.
This is different from electrically insulating footwear and from conductive footwear. The correct category depends on the workplace hazard assessment.

The whole system matters
Outsole contamination, replacement insoles, flooring and wear can affect performance. Do not modify certified footwear without confirming that the change is permitted.
Follow the site's electrical and PPE procedures and replace damaged footwear promptly.
